Czechoslovakian M85 Field Cap
A cap between two eras that will last for all areas…
The 5-year lifespan of the M85 is truly an interesting one. As the year suggests, it was introduced in the year 1985, phasing out the Stritchtarn similar “needle” camo cap known as the M60. Much like many Warsaw Pact nations, this much in the common spirit of the late cold war, transitioning the bizarre yet fascinating camo and gear of the early to mid cold war into the modern day. However, the reason for the transition into the new era was not for the reasons many would guess, as it was not a “failure” by any means, but instead because in 1989 the “Velvet Revolution” occurred, an act of civil disobedience and resistance to Moscow’s authority, where the citizens of Czechia resisted the yolk of communism to enter into an era of democracy, joining the western powers. After a year of great change and establishing the new order, the time had come to transition their military in the spirit of change, leading to the introduction of another camouflage cap. As the saying goes, what’s old is new again, and with this M85 cap, the same goes for you. With folding flaps, expect resistance to all kinds of weather, with military-grade durability. Rock out with one of these caps in an everyday fit, your neutral hiking kit, a military cold war impression, or any scenario you can see it fitting in, the possibilities are endless.
