USGI M1938 Canvas Leggings - NOS CONDITION
Originals in New Old Stock Condition for LESS than reproductions? Yes!
In a tale as old as time, the US Military modernized itself, it did cut corners. They wanted to keep debris and water out of boots and reduce wear on the bottom of trousers, but they didn’t want to spring for more expensive and taller boots. Thus, the M1938 Leggings were born!
The leggings are tall enough to keep out rocks and dirt, but not impede movement. They were actually quite advanced for their time in that they use a “quick-lace” to be donned and doffed without taking too much time. They are made of a very heavy duty duck canvas, so they’ll take a beating and can even be waxed to become more or less waterproof.
They were made in various sizes, mostly to fit soldiers with smaller legs - BUT WE’VE ONLY GOT THE LARGEST AND RAREST SIZE AVAILABLE. Size 6! They are ALL 1942 dated with visible stamps.
Size 6 is meant to fit a calf of 20” in its widest part. This might sound quite big, but this is a much more common sizing than you think. They were a perfect fit for Mr. Misty.
To lace up, simply run the laces through the eyelets with a knot at the bottom (so you don’t pull it through as you tighten), then bring each loop across to it’s corresponding hook. Pull on next lace loop until TIGHT. This ensures a good fit. Repeat until all are hooked, then tie small knot at top. Canvas strap secures on the side after running under your boot/shoe. See gallery for what a proper fit looks like.
Each set includes 2 gaiters and 4 sets of original laces. This ensures if you wear them out that you have a backup set to keep you squared away.
