USGI Emergency Canned Water
Purified Water, no rads, plenty of fun!
Back when the concern of the Cold War going hot was real (some things never change), the US government stockpiled food and water for fallout shelters and emergencies. The government stored water in large drums and smaller cans of water - seen here. These cans were also packed into aircraft and lifeboats. These cans are from the 1950s (we opened the original boxes) but their intended final use is unknown.
These cans are 10oz of water and were built in a very clever manor. The can actually has an aluminum lining so that rust cannot form and has space so that the contents can freeze and thaw without compromising the integrity of the can itself.
The cans themselves are in good condition, though some surface rust may be present, though the cans will be structurally sound.
While we do not recommend drinking from the cans for legal reasons, Mr. Misty drank one and survived. He said the flavor was metallic, but “tasty”. We have no idea what he was thinking or what that really means, but that’s what he said!
