US SOF Issue Patagonia Level 5 (Softshell) Multicam Pants
Oh yes we did.
These pants are no slouch. Built with the quality you can expect from Patagonia. Multidirectional stretch fabric where you want it, a breathable but wind-stopping layer in the pants, reinforced areas and lots of pockets. Absolutely phenomenal. Not a surprise though considering this version of the L5 layering system is only issued to Special Operations Forces (SOF).
Rather than listing the enormous list of features, we are instead going to explain how these are different from the regular issued softshell pants.
These are a lighter material and more breathable
The blowout side pockets have been replaced with zippered pockets that stay closer to the body
“Reach Through” zips have been deleted
Waist adjustment velcro has been deleted
Two small front of thigh zippered pockets have been added
Can accept internal kneepads (inserted from the inside)
Has built in gaiters (see gallery)
Has been treated with a water resistant treatment to keep you dry
Of course like its regular army issue sibling, it uses suspenders.
The biggest difference however is the fit. We don’t know if its because SOF like to have tight pants to encourage tight groups or what, but these do fit TIGHT for their waist size. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND ordering a size up from your regular waist size. Ex. Normally wear a Medium Regular, size up to a Large Regular. The height sizing is as usual, order your normal height size.
These pants are incredibly “gucci”. Lightweight, tough, breathable, everything you could want. Patagonia sells a civilian version of these with slightly less features for >800CAD, so when we say these are a screaming deal - we mean it.
These pants appear unused and are in EXCELLENT condition.
