Soviet "Shock Worker" of the 11th Five Year Plan Award Pin
We shouldn’t be SHOCKED that the Soviets made so many pins!
This pin was awarded to Soviet “Shock Workers” in the 11th set of 5 year plans (1981-1985). A “Shock Worker” was a worker who regularly surpassed the 5 year plan goals set out for them.
These 5 year plans were rife with cheating, hoarding and ultimately led to the economic collapse of the Soviet Command Economy. The 11th 5 Year Plan was a resounding failure with the later numbers likely being completely fudged. The first couple of years were in the low 60% growth against the required 90%, but somehow at the last minute hitting a 94% target. Hrmmm. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
