The East Germans, like most countries quickly realized that no matter the decade, if you’re on the deck of a ship, it’s windy, wet and gets very cold very fast. So, like many countries until very recently, they opted for wool “Peacoats” to protect their sailors from the elements.
These jackets are not only incredibly stylish, but very functional. The double breasted design ensures wind is kept out and that the user is protected from water. Speaking of water, wool is a fantastic material when it comes to getting wet because it will still insulate you if wet! It is also naturally anti-microbial, so it won’t get funky on a long voyage. The large collar also serves a function with the ability to flip it up in nasty winds to protect your face and ears.
These jackets appear very lightly used, if used at all for some. We have two options, NCO jackets with Gold piping around the collar and regular Volksmarine Jackets which do not have the piping but are otherwise the same.
