East German OD Field Caps
Do it like the Deutch
The East German Army, formally known as the National People's Army (NVA), was the military force of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) during the Cold War. One of the distinctive items of clothing worn by NVA soldiers was the grey or OD field cap (depending on manufacturer or year), which was an integral part of their uniform.
The NVA field cap was introduced in the early 1960s and was made from a durable grey-green fabric or alternatively in Strichtarn camouflage (raindrop). It has a distinctive design with a flat crown and a long, stiff visor. The cap also featured a red, black, and gold pin on the front, which was the national emblem of the NVA.
The NVA field cap remained in use until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the subsequent reunification of Germany. The field cap is a reminder of a bygone era and a testament to the role of the military in the political and social history of the Cold War. Today, it is a popular collector's item among military enthusiasts and historians, whose practicality on the field has outlived the nation and ideology it once served.

These items have been kept in storage since they entered the surplus market. They may contain slight defects from long-term storage such as fading, slight wear, and in rare cases a slight odor. Some may be missing their pin. Due to how long these were stored and how they were stored, they will need reshaping. Our recommendation is to put the hat on a bowl turned upside down overnight and then rest the brim between some textbooks to flatten it - so you can later shape it.
Manufacturing

Field Notes/Misty Supply Musings/Potential Uses/Trivia
The field cap was worn by soldiers in all branches of the military, including infantry, artillery, and armored units. It was worn in both combat and non-combat situations and was a symbol of the soldier's allegiance to the GDR and its communist government.
