Czechoslovakian "Lidové Milice" Refurbished M42 Helmet
After the end of the Second World War, Czechoslovakia found themselves with an immense amount of German equipment leftover from their occupation. With their economy in shambles, they did the sensible thing and used equipment they didn’t have to pay for - left by their captors in defeat.
German helmets were sanded, repainted, given a new liner and labled for use and issued to members of the new “Worker Militia” or in the original Czech “Lidové Milice”. The militiamen were equipped with Pistols, Rifles, Machineguns and more, but later reduced to just sidearms and a more standardized appearance and insignia. This is a remainder from the early post war period. It is unknown exactly when it was painted white, but its likely it was done for winter camouflage by a Militiaman.
The exact size has been rubbed out, but this helmet is small. It is likely a 55 or 56cm liner.
