Belgian Blue M51 Steel Pot Helmet

CA$93.50
Only 5 left in stock

Mom, can I have M1 Steel Pot Helmet?

“Son, we have Steel Pot at home.”

Misty Mountain Supply is proud to bring our latest batch of surplus-sourced new supply of Belgian M51 (The Steel Pots at home in Question) helmets!

After a good deal of “Resist and Bite,” and receiving liberation following WWII, Belgium was in need of a new helmet as it rebuilt its army. After going through the British Mk-2 helmet and their domestic M49 variant, they settled on the M51 in 1951, as the helmet's name references. The Belgian M51 Helmet and many other helmets by fellow post-war NATO nations is a clone of the iconic WW2-era American M1 “Steel Pot” helmet, famous to this day in films such as Saving Private Ryan.

The Belgian Defense Forces(Dutch: Defensie/French: La Défense) continued to use the M51 well into the 90s, as its reliable nature held up through the Korean War and countless peacekeeping operations. These helmets can still be found in war to this day, popping up in the occasional African conflict.

Features

  • The liner used is plastic rather than the Fiberglass used in American Helmets

  • The adjustable chin strap is the same as that used by GIs in the Vietnam War, rather than the style used on the Western Front

Schematics

Measurements: One size fits all!

Condition: True Surplus

Photos in the gallery are a reference of what to be expected:

Helmets have all seen use prior, expect paint flaking, weathering, and potentially rust.

Field Notes:

  • For some reason these helmets do not have the Belgian flag on the exterior, though they are on the liner.

  • Rustic and Timeless helmet, perfect for the kit of a WW2 and Cold War reenactor, but also make a lovely gift for the special Congolese militiaman in your life
