Austrian Army 3 Piece Mess Kit Set

It’s called a mess kit, but not because its messy to use!

When camping, you need a way to heat and eat your food. There is no way around it. Obviously, in the military you also need to do this. Lately there is a hyper-reliance on “lightweight” or “minimalist” gear. We are proponents of the opposite. Get something rugged and dependable.

Enter the 3 Piece Mess Kit. These are essentially unchanged since their introduction by the Germans in the 1930s. The design is just that good. During the cold war this design was adopted by dozens of nations, with Austria notably making theirs green instead of grey.

3 Pieces consist of:

  • A lid which has a handle so it can be eaten out of (or wrapped with paracord and used as a frying pan!)

  • Main Body to make tea or boil water (and your food) in

  • A nesting dish which can be used for cooking or to eat out of

These are durable, handy and a great way to protect your firemaking tools while in your bag. There will be dings, missing paint and slightly different shades but nothing that impedes use.
