The events that took place on September 11, 2001, were a tragic turning point in world history. The attack on the Twin Towers in New York City shook the entire world, and the repercussions of that day continue to be felt around the world. One unexpected result of the 9/11 attacks was the emergence of a new kind of art: handmade Pakistani rugs commemorating the events and the imagery of the Global War on Terror (GWOT).

Note: These rugs are of a size when rolled where they CANNOT be shipped with other items. Please order individually. If the rugs are ordered alongside other items, your order will be cancelled.

Pairing with Harad Imports, Misty Mountain Supply is proud to bring you these iconic GWOT art pieces! These rugs are made in Pakistan by skilled artisans who have been weaving rugs for generations. They depict the events of 9/11, including the Twin Towers, the American flag, or other imagery from the GWOT, with different words and slogans in English, Arabic, and Urdu.

The process of making a handmade Pakistani “war” rug is a time-consuming and labor-intensive one. The weavers use only the finest materials, including high-quality wool and silk, to create their intricate designs. They begin by sketching out the design on paper, carefully choosing the colours and patterns that will be used. Then, they begin the long process of weaving the rug, using a traditional loom and carefully stitching each thread by hand. The weavers take great pride in their work and consider each rug to be a work of art, tirelessly ensuring that every detail is excellent and that the finished product is a true representation of their skill and craftsmanship.

Harad Imports takes great care to ensure that the rugs are of the highest quality, making sure only the best materials and best tradesmen are assigned to create them. These rugs are a way to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the Global War on Terror, Pashtun style.

Field Notes/Misty Supply Musings/Potential Uses/Trivia

  • The 9/11 rugs were created as a response to the attacks on the United States, and they serve as a symbol of solidarity and support for efforts for peace. They are also a reminder of the importance of peace and unity in the face of tragedy. Many of the weavers who make these rugs have lost family members in the GWOT, as Pakistani forces played a key role in fighting ISIS and Tehreek-e-Taliban.

  • There will be minor differences between each rug because they are handmade!

  • The English on some of the rugs may be less then sensical, this is because many of the people creating the rugs don’t necessarily speak very much or any English, but they felt it was important to include none the less.
