The South African Police Reaction Unit was an elite Anti-Terror group that was founded in 1979 and disbanded 22 years later in 2001. It was formed in order to better respond to urban terrorism. The small team was deployed in several regions and conducted regular and extensive training. The Reaction Unit No. 9 (Durban) received 23 commendations, which included a Presidential Commendation, awarded to the unit while it was under the command of Captain Pine Pienaar.
This plaque was made to commemorate the Reaction Unit in the 1980s and is original. Features a “kickstand” on the rear for putting on a shelf or desk for display.
