3rd Reich Produced Portuguese Contract K98 Mauser Bayonets

CA$150.00
sold out

These knife bayonets were used on the 8mm Mauser M/937 rifle. These bayonets were actually produced in Germany under contract from the Portuguese government. They bear “waffenamts” (German acceptance marks) but do not have the other markings that bayonets that were used by German troops were marked with. These are second contract examples (1941). We know this because of the WaA 883 inspection stamps.

The scabbard is an original Portuguese-contract scabbard, as evidenced by the abbreviated serial number on the frog stud (letter prefix and last two-digits).Unlike bayonets produced for the German Army, these bayonets have no maker markings.  The inspection teams represented by WaA 253 and WaA 883, covered many of the large Solingen blade makers, so it is not known which firm produced these bayonets.

Scabbard is likely not matching and there will be some rust, patina and pitting present. There may even be cosmoline present. A good clean should be expected upon receiving of these bayonets.
